Visit of UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay to AlUla Old Town on 31st January 2020

Audrey Azoulay, the Director-General of UNESCO, visited Saudi Arabia from 30 to 31 January 2020 to attend the 2020 Conference of Nobel Laureates, held in AlUla. This visit at the invitation of His Highness Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud, the Minister of Culture, followed the agreement reached between UNESCO and Saudi Arabia to support the development of the country’s new Ministry of Culture in 2018. This trip was an opportunity for the Director-General to visit the historic site of Al-Hijr (Madain Salih), the Kingdom’s first site to be inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List as well as the Old Town of AlUla. 

During the visit of the Old Town, RCU, AFALULA and HCC team accompanied the UNESCO delegation led by Audrey Azoulay and presented the program and the progress of the conservation work.
